I'm happy to share a couple photos of the graduates of architecture and interns from the HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners summer picnic. They're a great group and impress me regularly by their attitudes with clients and colleagues and growth in their careers. I'm excited to see them in action licensed soon!

Please join me in congratulating Kyle Van Klompenberg for completing his final exam!!! He now holds the title of architect in Michigan and brings more game to our team. He has also been very supportive at giving advice and encouraging others both within our office and the AIA for pursuing exams completion and licensure. Thank you, Kyle!

Are you interested in a group focused on improving BIM on your work? Christopher Alexander, AIA, CCS, CDT is a great colleague friend of mine who has been an adjunct at Kendall College of Art and Design and a leader at Progressive Companies who is a founding member of wwww.biminvitational.com. Check them out to up your game, or better yet, join them at their community engagement on July 22-23 in St. Paul, MN.

HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners and Wolverine Building Group had their interns and graduates get together today for sharing of how each experiences their learning. We hosted and discussed the architectural side of construction administration. We're very much looking forward to the visit later this summer to one of their job sites to see their side of construction administration and what they helped build. Thank you Morgan Wawee and Jodi Ross, PHR, SHRM-CP for helping to organize this!

AIA Grand Rapids had another good ARE Study Group tonight hosted at HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners with the discussion topic lead by Drew McNamara on contracts! There was a good turnout in person and online. We hope to see you and more at the next month event.

Yesterday was a great day with colleagues Ashley Dunneback AIA NCARB, Allmon Forrester, and Susan Bayne helping to judge submittals to the Excellence in Construction awards with Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Western Michigan Chapter. Over my years of involvement, I've enjoyed seeing many worthy projects of craftsmanship and I look forward to this fall's awards night when the winners are presented! HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners encourages recognition of this and supports our senior staff in participating and mentoring others on the architectural side of the end results of teams.

Thank you, Jamie Soderstrom of VanderWall Brothers for hosting HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners as part of their summer extravaganza of fellowship and learning. We thoroughly enjoyed the factory tour, hands-on of building a CMU wall, a presentation by Craig Alwine of Polycore on quarrying and fabrication of Indiana limestone, and of course the pizza baked in your brick outdoor ovens!

HDJ Architects / Engineers / Planners had their summer extravaganza this week for office fellowship and learning. As one of our break-out groups, local engineers Leah Ruther and Elise Love, P.E., RRC of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. lead an excellent discussion of forensics and restoration with historic masonry and terra cotta including many examples in West Michigan and also a case study share of a recent project by them with us. Thank you for such an interesting session!
