mbernste MVM 2002-Jun-4 6:07 pm Comcast owns Cablevision!...at least a part of it anyway. I thought I saw something in the proxy regarding Comcast having an inveztment in Cablevision. Well, it looks like they're selling their stake (see »Comcast Lightens the Load). My question is why didn't Comcast turn to them for broadband services when they had to do the switch over? Cablevision owns an ISP and I outright challenge anyone on this board to find a faster and better high speed cable Internet provider in the US of A. | ||||||

I can only speculate an answer... Comcast didn't turn to Cablevision because Comcast would rather *advertise* services than *provide* them. | ||||||

Optimum Online is the SWEETEST thing since sugar-cane with the fastest cable speeds in the world. OK, listen to this. A few guys in the Yahoo! OOL forum were complaining about slow newsgroup speeds (around 1-2 mbit from the normal 8 mbps + people are used to). You would think, "OK. Another complainer. Nothing is gonna happen to fix this." Well, it just happens that Wilt Hildenbrand (Executive Vice President of Engineering and Technology) and Rick Spanbauer (another BIG "higher-up") visit that forum on a regular basis (basically every day) and respond to people's comments. As of today we now have a BRAND-NEW high-speed newsgroup server serving pretty much at a consistent 8 MEGABITS per second! | ||||||

mbernste to IceMan5043 MVM 2002-Jun-5 5:18 am Don't I know it! You know how frustrating it is? I live right next door to Edison, in fact we're the "border" for Comcast in Middlesex county. All towns to the west of us (except for some of the Brunswicks) are OOL/Cablevision territory. I just noticed on my way in to town yesterday that one of those "Welcome to Woodbridge Township" (the town I actually live in) signs was sponsored by, you guessed it, Comcast. Considering that we have a Comcast office in our town and they are very generous to our schools and libraries (I believe they get OOL like speeds for free as well as free cable) we will not be seeing Cablevision coming anytime soon. The only way I forsee getting OOL is if I move one town over. My Aunt has OOL where she lives in Manalapan (because of me she was the first person in her entire adult community to get a cable modem) and she has OOL. Boy, do I love using her Internet connection!!! | ||||||
