India vs Spain Highlights, Paris Olympics 2024 Men’s Hockey Bronze Medal Match: The Indian hockey team has claimed a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics after defeating Spain 2-1 on Friday. The medal is India hockey team’s 13th in history, and second straight bronze at the Games after Tokyo 2020.
It was captain Harmanpreet Singh who led from the front handing India a 2-1 lead after they were trailing 0-1at one point.
Harmanpreet Singh slipped a low dragflick into the Spanish goal for his second goal to hand India a lead in the third quarter. He had banged in a ferocious drag flick at the cusp of half-time to level the scores at 1-1 in the India vs Spain bronze medal match. India were trailing by a goal against Spain in the Paris Olympics bronze medal match after they conceded a penalty stroke in the second quarter, which Marc Miralles scored.
After losing a nail-biting game against Germany, the Indian hockey team is trying to regain a medal they had won three years ago.
India at Tokyo 2020 did manage to get a bronze medal and will be hoping to replicate something similar in Paris today. Additionally, India also boasts of a good record against Spain in recent times. The FIH rankings see India placed at fifth spot with 2771.06 ranking points while Spain are eighth at 2547.16 ranking points.
India will need to pick themselves up after a heartbreaking defeat against Germany. Spain meanwhile were outplayed in a 0-4 defeat against Netherlands. Harmanpreet Singh has been India’s main goalscorer once again, while PR Sreejesh plays his last match for India today.

Since we've got here, we've been talking about dedicating this tournament to Sreejesh because his journey is incredible. Playing this long for India is amazing. Harmanpreet also mentioned what this medal win means to the entire nation, "I think this is a big moment for the entire country, and for us as well. The Olympics are a stage where you have to wait for a long time to get here. You have to face a lot of challenges because it isn't easy as a hockey player. It's not easy for the viewers either. Our mentality and mindset when we come into the ground is to win. Many times, the result isn't in our favor, but I think this was our destiny. Our dream was to win the Gold and people believed in us. We started with so much pace and hunger against Germany in the semifinal. That was missing in the first 25 minutes. But a goal with 14 seconds to go, brings India back into the game. India were struggling when they conceded. We were slow and sluggish with the passes. The goal from Harman is crucial because Spain would have defended half court in the second half and not given India space, then hit us on the counter. We need to be much calmer in the final attacking corner, too many missed passes. It is about decision-making in the circle, we need to be precise with the finishing as well and the forwards need to show their class.

CHANCES AT BOTH ENDS: Another really good chance for Spain and they hit the post! Sreejesh is then scrambling to save it and it is a PC for Spain. But Sreejesh saves that as well. And it leads to an Indian counter and it is a 4-2 situation that India squanders. Instead they want a PC, review it and get it. That was a golden chance to score from open play. Timid from the Indian forwards .
