A breakdown of how exactly the new video game sees Georgia's 2024 season playing out.
Jordan D. Hill
The wait for college football video game fans finally ended last week with the release of EA Sports' College Football 25, the game maker's first NCAAF video game in 11 years. The game has been a hit for many football fans and video gamers alike, and it can also be used to help us preview the upcoming 2024 season.
We used the video game's popular Dynasty mode to simulate Georgia's 2024 schedule and get a feel for how the Bulldogs may look this fall. We put the game on Heisman mode, left injuries on, left the new "wear and tear" settings on, and simulated all of Georgia's games to see how the season played out.
The game has UGA head coach Kirby Smart named "Neil Hobbs." He's a level 45 coach who is described as a CEO. The offensive scheme is a Pro Style, the defensive scheme is a 3-3-5 Tite, and his recruiting pipeline is the Metro Atlanta Area.
Let's dive into the 2024 season that was for the Bulldogs:
WEEK 1: VS. CLEMSON (ATLANTA)
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 37-34
OVERALL RECORD: 1-0 (0-0 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: No. 1 Georgia built an 18-point lead on No. 8 Clemson in Saturday's season opener, but the Bulldogs had to hold on for dear life late in order to start the year with an unblemished record.
Georgia withstood a massive second-half rally by Clemson and got the last laugh when kicker Peyton Woodring drilled a 51-yard field goal to secure a 37-34 victory. The sophom*ore's clutch kick was just what was needed for the Bulldogs, which had been outscored 24-3 after halftime prior to his late attempt.
Georgia led 28-10 at halftime thanks to a pair of first-half touchdowns by both Roderick Robinson and Dillon Bell, but Clemson refused to throw in the towel.
Jarvis Green's 2-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter cut Georgia's lead to 28-17, but Woodring responded with a 35-yard field goal just over a minute later. Clemson's Tyler Brown got the Tigers by catching a 5-yard touchdown pass from Cade Klubnik, which cut the Bulldogs' lead to seven with 1:03 to go in the third.
Clemson running back David Eziomume tied the game with a 5-yard touchdown run with 3:53 remaining in regulation, but Woodring responded with a 29-yard field goal with 2:33 to go. Clemson's would-be go-ahead touchdown on a 75-yard pass from Klubnik to Antonio Williams was wiped away by a holding penalty, forcing the Tigers to settle for a field goal with 1:13 to go instead.
Carson Beck and company then went to work to finish the job late in the fourth.
Beck led a 7-play, 41-yard drive highlighted by a 24-yard pass to Lovett and capped off by Woodring's deep kick. The Tigers had precious seconds to work with and managed to get all the way to the Georgia 33-yard line, though the clock ultimately ran out on their late heroics.

WEEK 2: VS. FCS SOUTHEAST
Note: Sorry, Tennessee Tech fans, but the Golden Eagles are not in the game. We had to settle FCS Southeast.
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 34-12
OVERALL RECORD: 2-0 (0-0 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: No. 1 Georgia didn't light up the scoreboard against FCS Southeast on Saturday, but the Bulldogs did more than enough to add another win to their 2024 collection.
Georgia running back Trevor Etienne found the end zone twice and the Bulldogs' defense stifled the Pandas on their way to a 34-12 victory. The game featured a quiet second half, as both teams combined for just 10 points after halftime.
Etienne had a big day for the Bulldogs, but it didn't start off on a positive note.
Etienne was tackled in the end zone on a 3-yard loss early in the first quarter, which put FCS Southeast up 2-0. The Florida transfer got back in the Bulldogs' good races later in the quarter by hitting paydirt on a 2-yard touchdown run to put Georgia ahead 7-2.
Georgia effectively put the game on ice during a productive second quarter.
The Bulldogs put up 20 points in the span of 4:38 of game time to put the Pandas in their place. Roderick Robinson started the quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Peyton Woodring got in on the scoring with a 36-yard field goal with 2:52 to go before halftime. Etienne found the end zone again on another 2-yard run, though FCS Southeast answered the score with a 25-yard touchdown pass with 28 seconds to go before the break.
Georgia wasn't done scoring, however. Woodring connected on a 31-yard field goal with 2 seconds to go before halftime.
The scoring was minimal for either team after the intermission. Oscar Delp caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck early in the third quarter before FCS Southeast tacked on a 44-yard field goal with just 11 seconds to go in the period.

WEEK 3: AT KENTUCKY
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 35-33 (2OT)
OVERALL RECORD: 3-0 (1-0 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: Georgia fans held their breaths for more than 60 minutes of action on Saturday, but the Bulldogs let out a collective sigh of relief when their defensive line got the stop they needed in double-overtime.
The Georgia front stopped Kentucky running back Chip Trayanum short of the goal line to thwart the Wildcats' two-point conversion attempt and secure a dramatic 35-33 victory for the Bulldogs. The goal-line stand capped off a double-overtime period in which Oscar Delp put the Dawgs ahead and ruined former Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff's hopes of leading his new team to a massive upset.
A fourth-quarter rally put Kentucky on the verge of downing the No. 2 Bulldogs, but the road team proved it had enough left in the tank to get the job done.
Trayanum started overtime with a 1-yard touchdown run, but London Humphreys answered it by catching a 22-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck. Beck and the Bulldogs kept the scoring up with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Delp, but the Wildcats responded with Vandagriff's 32-yard touchdown throw to Dane Key.
Then came Trayanum's run, which came up short of the end zone and set off a wild celebration on the Georgia sideline.
The late drama followed a low-scoring affair that featured a Kentucky rally late.
Dominic Lovett's 10-yard touchdown catch with 2:59 to go gave Georgia a 20-6 lead, but Vandagriff and the Wildcats weren't going down without a fight. Vandagriff found Demie Sumo-Karngbaye for a 1-yard touchdown with 2:24, and the Wildcats' defense kept them in the game by forcing a three-and-out on the next Georgia possession.
Vandagriff delivered his biggest moment shortly thereafter by hitting Ja'Mori Maclin on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Once Kentucky's extra point split the uprights, the game was tied 20-20 with 1:32 to go.
The action-packed fourth quarter made up for a quiet battle to open the game.
Neither team found the end zone prior to Lovett's late-fourth quarter score. Georgia kicker Peyton Woodring delivered Georgia's first 12 points, the most impressive coming on a 53-yard field goal with 1:09 to go before halftime. His Kentucky counterpart, Alex Raynor, hit two field goals in the game, his last cutting Georgia's lead to 9-6 with 1:46 to go in the third quarter.
NOTABLE OFFENSIVE STATS:

WEEK 5: AT ALABAMA
FINAL SCORE: Alabama wins 34-21
OVERALL RECORD: 3-1 (1-1 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED:No. 2 Georgia hoped a new era of football in Tuscaloosa would mean a change of pace against the Crimson Tide. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they quickly learned that No. 10 Alabama is still fully capable of delivering daggers in major moments.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Crimson Tide defense thwarted the Georgia offense several times in a 34-21 victory. The loss stood as a significant blow for the Bulldogs while also standing as the first SEC victory for the Crimson Tide under their new head coach.
Georgia struggled to match Alabama step for step on Saturday, and late heroics just weren't in the cards for the road team.
Alabama stretched its lead to 28-14 with 3:44 to go in the action, and the Bulldogs were in desperate need for points. Carson Beck's attempt to reignite the Georgia offense ended quickly on the ensuing possession, as his pass was picked off by DeVonta Smith and helped set up a 31-yard field goal for Graham Nicholson.
Beck wound up finding Oscar Delp on a 24-yard touchdown pass less than a minute later, but it was too little, too late for Georgia.
Georgia actually started the action with a bang, but it was one that the Bulldogs failed to consistently replicate.
Beck found Rara Thomas on a 38-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter, but Alabama set its sights on answering it in the second. Justice Haynes tied the game with a 20-yard touchdown run with 3:02 to go before halftime, and Milroe connected with Kendrick Law on an 11-yard touchdown pass with just 22 seconds before the break. Law's score put Alabama ahead 14-7.
Georgia had its opportunities before halftime, but multiple drives stalled out and ended with no points. Those missed chances loomed large, especially when Alabama got rolling in the second half.
Richard Young broke off a 42-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter that left Georgia in a 21-7 hole. Beck found London Humphreys for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds left in the third, but that score proved as close as the Bulldogs could get in the second half.
NOTABLE OFFENSIVE STATS:
Carson Beck: 30-of-45 for 311 yds. with 3 TD and 1 INT; 9 car. for 24 yds.

WEEK 6: VS. AUBURN
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 31-24
OVERALL RECORD: 4-1 (2-1 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: No. 8 Georgia and Auburn found themselves in a deadlock on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately for Georgia, Rara Thomas and CJ Allen answered the bell to put the Bulldogs over the top.
Thomas caught a touchdown pass from Carson Beck to break a 17-17 tie and CJ Allen returned a fumble 29 yards for another score to set the stage for a 31-24 victory. While the rivalry matchup was a tight contest for the second straight year, Georgia managed to win its eighth consecutive game in the series and beat Auburn for the ninth straight time in Sanford Stadium.
The two teams were deadlocked entering the fourth before the game swung in Georgia's favor on a big play on offense and a heads-up play on defense.
Thomas broke the tie with a 3-yard touchdown from Beck with 3:26 to go in the fourth, and Allen kept the momentum in Georgia's favor just seconds later. Allen picked up a fumble and made a house call, which essentially ended Auburn's hopes of pulling off the major upset.
Auburn's Cam Coleman managed to score his second touchdown of the game with 57 seconds remaining, but it was not enough for the Tigers to close the gap.
Coleman set off what was a back-and-forth second quarter of action.
Coleman matched Roderick Robinson's 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter by catching a 7-yard touchdown pass from Payton Thorne midway through the second quarter. Peyton Woodring connected on a 32-yard field goal less than a minute later, and the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 10 with Beck's 47-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Bell with just 32 seconds left in the first half.
Auburn cut into Georgia's lead in the third quarter with Alex McPherson's 34-yard field goal and Thorne's 26-yard touchdown pass to Rivaldo Fairweather. Fairweather's touchdown catch tied the game 17-17 with 2:25 to go in the third.

WEEK 7: VS. MISSISSIPPI STATE
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 20-14
OVERALL RECORD: 5-1 (3-1 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: The Georgia offense wasn't exactly clicking on all cylinders on Saturday. That said, the Bulldogs' defense stuffed Mississippi State and held the maroon Bulldogs back just enough to secure another UGA victory.
First-half touchdowns by Rara Thomas and Cash Jones and second-half field goals by Peyton Woodring were just enough for No. 8 Georgia to squeak by Mississippi State 20-14. The Georgia defense held the visitors scoreless until the fourth quarter, when a pair of touchdowns and a final-second drive had Mississippi State on the brink of an upset.
Mississippi State got the ball down six points with 1:19 to go and methodically made its way down the field. The maroon Bulldogs got all the way to the Georgia 2-yard line, but Mykel Williams sacked Blake Shapen on fourth-and-goal to seal another dramatic victory.
The maroon Bulldogs' offense floundered for most of the game, but quarterback Blake Shapen gave them life late. Shapen hit Creed Whittemore on a 46-yard touchdown to get Mississippi State on the board before finding Kevin Coleman on a 7-yard touchdown pass two-and-a-half minutes later.
Shapen and the maroon Bulldogs' final drive had promise, but it ended just short of paydirt.
The game seemed to be in Georgia's control based on the early action.
Thomas, a former Mississippi State receiver, got Georgia going in a big way with a 73-yard touchdown catch late in the first quarter. Jones gave Georgia a 14-0 lead via a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Woodring extended the lead midway through the third quarter with a 20-yard field goal.
Woodring's 18-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter left Mississippi State in a 20-0 hole.

WEEK 8: AT TEXAS
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 39-34
OVERALL RECORD: 6-1 (4-1 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: The Bulldogs might have had trouble stopping Isaiah Bond, but Carson Beck ensured that Bond's play was not enough to help Texas defeat Georgia.
Beck scored three total touchdowns on Saturday to help No. 5 Georgia hold off No. 9 Texas in a thrilling 39-34 victory. Beck's heroics overshadowed a monster game by Bond, who ended the loss with 11 receptions for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Saturday's victory was yet another for Georgia that saw the Bulldogs build a big lead then have to hold on late.
Georgia pulled away from Texas in the second quarter with a crucial 10-point outburst. The Longhorns held a slim 10-9 lead early in the second quarter when Beck found Dominic Lovett for a 10-yard touchdown. Both kickers traded field goals before the Georgia defense forced a punt just before halftime.
Peyton Woodring hit another field goal — this from 50 yards — to put Georgia ahead 19-13 at the break.
Another Lovett touchdown and two-point conversion followed by a 36-yard Woodring kick gave Georgia a 20-point lead with just over a minute to go in the third quarter.
Bond got going in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs had to hold on to stay out in front.
Bond caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers midway through the fourth, and Beck answered it with a 14-yard touchdown run to create a 39-20 score. Bond caught a 10-yard touchdown less than a minute later then found the end zone again with a 6-yard score with just 22 seconds to go.
The Bulldogs finally breathed a sigh of relief when they recovered the onside kick to put an end to the late Longhorns rally.

WEEK 10: VS. FLORIDA (JACKSONVILE)
FINAL SCORE: Florida wins 31-30
OVERALL RECORD: 6-2 (4-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: The Georgia Bulldogs have had a habit of scoring a lot early and trying to hold onto leads late this season. The Bulldogs flirted with disaster several times this season, but those situations were nowhere as disastrous as what played out in Jacksonville on Saturday.
No. 4 Georgia blew a 17-point lead to No. 15 Florida capped off by backup quarterback DJ Lagway's 4-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Badger on the game's final play. The brutal end to the rivalry game not only puts Georgia in a tough position in the conference standings but also gives the Bulldogs little leeway in the playoff race.
A pair of Peyton Woodring field goals have Georgia a 27-10 lead with 1:24 left in the third quarter. From there, Florida took over.
Montrell Johnson got Florida's comeback going with a 26-yard touchdown, which cut Georgia's lead to 27-17 with 3:41 to go in the game. Woodring tacked on a 46-yard field goal to push Georgia's lead to 13, but Graham Mertz got the Gators going again with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chimera Dike. The Mertz-to-Dike strike cut Georgia's lead to 30-24 with 1:54 to go.
Mertz left the game due to injury on Florida's next drive, and Georgia did its best to drain the clock in the possession that followed. The Gators got the ball back on their own 20-yard line with no timeouts and 39 seconds to go, and Lagway put together the drive of his life.
Lagway connected for explosive plays with Badger, Dike, and Eugene Wilson to march the Gators down the field. The freshman saved his best for last by finding Badger in the end zone with no time left on the clock. Trey Smack's extra point secured the Florida victory and sealed Georgia's fate.
The game's ending was a stark contrast to a one-sided first half of action.
Florida's Jadan Baugh got the Gators on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the game, and Roderick Robinson answered it with a 38-yard score on the final play of the quarter. Smack pushed Florida back out front with a 50-yard field goal only for Georgia to regain the lead on Carson Beck's 24-yard touchdown run and push it to a 21-10 contest on Trevor Etienne's 1-yard run with 46 seconds left in the half.
NOTABLE OFFENSIVE STATS:
Carson Beck: 13-of-19 for 163 yds.; 13 car. for 61 yds. and 1 TD

WEEK 11: AT OLE MISS
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 38-17
OVERALL RECORD: 7-2 (5-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: After suffering a disappointing loss to rival Florida last week, the Georgia Bulldogs were in desperate need of a get-right game. The Bulldogs delivered on that opportunity on Saturday by beating down one of the SEC's top teams on the road.
No. 10 Georgia humbled No. 8 Ole Miss with a 38-17 victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs' victory featured an outstanding performance by wide receiver London Humphreys, who caught 8 passes for 169 yards and 4 touchdowns in a one-sided Georgia win.
Humphreys set the tone early in the action, and there was little the Rebels could do to stop him or the Bulldogs.
Humphreys got Georgia on the board late in the first quarter by catching a 21-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck. Humphreys was back at it in the second quarter following a Caden Davis field goal, finding the end zone again on a 9-yard touchdown reception.
Tre Harris delivered Ole Miss' biggest explosive play of the game with a 41-yard touchdown catch with 1:12 to go in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs weren't done in the first half. Another Georgia receiver — Dillon Bell — scored on a 12-yard catch with just 11 seconds to go until intermission, pushing the Bulldogs to a 21-10 lead.
Humphreys promptly put the game on ice in the third quarter.
The Vanderbilt transfer was nearly unstoppable after the break and found the end zone on a 49-yard pass with 4:02 left in the third and on a 29-yard pass nearly two minutes later. Woodring extended Georgia's lead with a 35-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter before Jordan Watkins caught a 7-yard touchdown pass for the Rebels halfway through the final period.

WEEK 12: VS. TENNESSEE
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 45-12
OVERALL RECORD: 8-2 (6-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: The Georgia Bulldogs showed signs of turning the corner last week with a one-sided road win over Ole Miss. That success carried over to Saturday, when the Bulldogs beat down another Top-10 opponent.
No. 8 Georgia made quick work of No. 10 Tennessee in a 45-12 victory. The blowout win featured a three-touchdown performance by wide receiver Dominic Lovett and has helped Georgia keep pace in what is shaping up to be a very competitive race to make the College Football Playoff.
The Bulldogs put the Volunteers in their place early on in this one.
Lovett delivered one of the biggest plays of the season with a 75-yard touchdown reception less than a minute into the action. Tennessee's Josh Turbyville delivered a 44-yard field goal less than a minute later, and the Bulldogs responded with Carson Beck's 7-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Delp with less than two minutes to go in the quarter.
Georgia wasted little time in expanding its modest lead.
The second quarter was all Dawgs, as Georgia outscored Tennessee 17-0 before the break. Dillon Bell caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Beck before Lovett found the end zone again, this time on a 23-yard strike. Peyton Woodring tacked on a 35-yard field goal for good measure to give the Bulldogs a 28-point lead at intermission.
Georgia had repeatedly squandered big leads this season, but that was not the case on Saturday.
Lovett added to his impressive outing by catching an 11-yard touchdown pass with 3:07 to go in the third quarter. Roderick Robinson delivered Georgia's sixth and final touchdown of the victory with a 14-yard touchdown run with 4:02 to go in the game.
Turbyville was responsible for all 12 of Tennessee's points, nine of which came in the game's final quarter.

WEEK 13: VS. UMASS
FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 20-0
OVERALL RECORD: 9-2 (6-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: The bad news for Georgia on Saturday was that points were hard to come by against UMass. The good news was that the Bulldogs' defense did more than enough to secure yet another victory.
No. 7 Georgia held a hapless UMass offense in check on its way to a 20-0 victory. While the Bulldogs' offense sputtered for most of the four quarters, touchdown catches by Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas were more than enough to get the Bulldogs past the Minutemen.
Peyton Woodring's 51-yard field goal delivered the game's only points until just under three minutes to go in the second quarter, when Lovett found the end zone on a 29-yard pass from Carson Beck. Beck wasn't done delivering big plays in the first half, as he found Thomas on a 47-yard touchdown pass with 59 seconds to go until the break.
Woodring's 18-yard field goal delivered Georgia's final points in this one.

WEEK 14: VS. GEORGIA TECH
FINAL SCORE: Georgia Tech wins 44-26
OVERALL RECORD: 9-3 (6-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: Georgia entered Saturday's showdown with Georgia Tech in great position to make the College Football Playoff and end the regular season on a high note. Instead, the Yellow Jackets thumped the Bulldogs and left their rivals praying that their resume is strong enough to make the playoff.
Georgia Tech scored the game's first 27 points and withstood a resurgent second half by No. 4 Georgia to take a 44-26 road victory. The outcome was not only a consolation prize for a Yellow Jackets' team that fell short of bowl eligibility but also stood as a major blow for the Bulldogs, which fell to their in-state rival for the first time in eight years.
A dominant first quarter by the Yellow Jackets set the stage for an upset loss few Georgia fans will soon forget.
Christian Leary got Georgia Tech going early in the first quarter by catching a 43-yard touchdown pass from Haynes King. Aidan Birr tacked on a 32-yard field goal on the next Georgia Tech possession, and just over a minute later Jamal Haynes reached paydirt on a 2-yard run. Former Georgia tight end Brett Seither closed out the quarter with a 6-yard touchdown catch, leaving the Bulldogs in a 24-0 hole after the opening quarter.
While the Georgia Tech offense was thriving, the Georgia offense was floundering. The Bulldogs had five first-quarter possessions, which amounted to a pair of three-and-outs, a pair of interceptions, and a punt.
The second quarter became a kicker's duel with Birr and Peyton Woodring each delivering a pair of field goals for their team. Leary found the end zone again with a 35-yard touchdown catch on the half's final play, leaving the Bulldogs improbably trailing by a 37-6 score.
Georgia showed more life in the second half, but the damage was already done.
Dominic Lovett delivered Georgia's first touchdown with a 51-yard catch, cutting the Yellow Jackets' lead to 24. A Roderick Robinson touchdown run and a failed two-point conversion created a 37-19 contest with 4:19 to go, but Georgia Tech answered with another Leary score.
Lovett delivered the game's final touchdown with a 9-yard touchdown catch with 1:20 remaining in the game.

FINAL SCORE: Georgia wins 24-19
OVERALL RECORD: 10-3 (6-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: Saturday was already a historic day for Georgia thanks to the 7th-seeded Bulldogs hosting the eighth-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. As memorable as hosting a playoff matchup in Sanford Stadium was, the Bulldogs made sure to make it a game worth remembering.
Dominic Lovett found the end zone twice and the Georgia defense clamped down in the second half to set the stage for a 24-19 Georgia victory. The all-around performance was one worth celebrating for the Bulldogs, which now move on to face No. 1 seed Oregon in the Rose Bowl as part of the playoff quarterfinals.
The second half was a quiet one for both teams, but the Bulldogs made enough plays to extend their season.
North Carolina cut Georgia's lead to one with a safety midway through the third quarter, but the Bulldogs didn't let that mistake linger. Carson Beck hit London Humphreys for a 7-yard touchdown pass, which created a 24-16 contest with 38 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.
The Georgia defense forced a 36-yard field goal by Noah Burnette midway through the fourth quarter, and from there the Georgia offense was in cruise control. The Bulldogs pieced together a 12-play possession to burn off the remaining time, with Cash Jones carrying the load on the deciding drive.
The quiet second half followed an opening two quarters that seemed to signal a shootout was on its way.
Lovett opened the action with a 52-yard touchdown early in Georgia's first drive, and North Carolina's Darwin Barlow responded with a 1-yard touchdown run later in the quarter. Peyton Woodring gave the lead back to Georgia early in the second quarter before Athens native Max Johnson found Kobe Paysour on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:10 to go before halftime.
The Georgia offense had no interest in trailing at the break, resulting in an impressive drive that culminated with Carson Beck finding Lovett on an 11-yard strike with 19 seconds left in the half.

CFP QUARTERFINALS: VS. NO. 1 OREGON (ROSE BOWL)
FINAL SCORE: Oregon wins 34-31
OVERALL RECORD: 10-4 (6-2 SEC)
WHAT HAPPENED: After watching its lead slip away late in the action, Georgia still had one more chance to force overtime and keep its postseason alive. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, their struggles in the fourth quarter culminated in a missed kick that few will soon get over.
Peyton Woodring's 60-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter came up short and set off an Oregon celebration in a 34-31 victory for the top-seeded Ducks. The missed field goal was an all-too-fitting end to the action for Georgia, which watched a touchdown lead slip away in the final quarter thanks to an interception and some poorly-timed drops.
Georgia led 24-17 entering the final quarter when the Ducks put the Bulldogs in their place.
Traeshon Holden found the end zone for the second time in the game when he caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel to tie the game with 4:41 left in regulation. Georgia's next possession ended when Carson Beck was intercepted by Khamari Terrell, which set up a drive that culminated in Atticus Sappington's 32-yard field goal with 3:36 to go.
Georgia tried to respond to Sappington's kick, but the offense was all out of whack. Consecutive drops by Georgia receivers ended the possession after seven plays, which put the Ducks in position to take the game over.
Oregon took advantage of Georgia's mistakes and built a 10-point lead with Noah Whittington's 13-yard touchdown run. To Georgia's credit, it didn't give in — Beck quickly led a 7-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a 5-yard touchdown pass to Roderick Robinson.
Georgia recovered the ensuing onside kick, which opened the door for the Bulldogs to at least force overtime. Unfortunately, Georgia had trouble setting up Woodring for the tie, and his season-long attempt did not have the necessary distance.
The intense close to the action matched an entertaining back-and-forth first half by the two teams.
Beck got the game going with a 39-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys, but Oregon responded with Gabirel's 2-yard touchdown run late in the corner. Gabriel found Traeshon Holden on a 41-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter before Beck answered it immediately with a 38-yard touchdown throw to Rara Thomas.
Georgia regained the lead with 90 seconds left in the half when Beck found Dominic Lovett on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Both kickers got into the action before the break, as Sappington hit a 40-yard field goal and Woodring drilled a 52-yard attempt to leave the Bulldogs up 24-17 at the half.
