Talk to Me 2 news has started to circulate with Talk To Me receiving critical praise after its release in the U.S., and the A24 sequel is already in the works. Talk to Me follows a group of teens who unleash a great evil while playing a party game with an embalmed, inscribed hand. This leads to various spirits taking over their bodies, and the movie focuses on a young woman named Mia (Sophie Wilde) who has to find a way to survive the horrific situation — a twist on the traditional Monkey Paw and Ouija Board stories.

YouTube stars Danny and Michael Philippou created the movie, and the indie horror hit became one of the surprise cinema darlings of 2023. Besides being one of the best horror movies of 2023, Talk to Me also went a long way in revitalizing the tired genre that often lacks original crafty ideas. With that in mind, fans immediately began screaming for a sequel, and it didn't take long for Talk to Me 2 to go into development. Though news has been scant, a sequel is in the works.

Sophie Wilde Likely Won't Return

Months after the sequel was formally announced, the latest news suggests that original star Sophie Wilde won't return in Talk to Me 2. Turning heads as the troubled protagonist, Mia, Wilde could have returned for the sequel considering her character's fate. However, it has now been revealed that the in-demand Aussie actor is not currently signed on, and isn't at liberty to discuss development on the sequel. She did, however, express her desire to be involved in some way, even jokingly offering to work as a boom operator on set.

I don’t know. I feel like it’s still a bit hush hush because I mean, the boys [filmmakers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou], they’re such workaholics. I know they’re focusing on a bunch of other projects that they’re doing at the moment. So I don’t know, it’s all up in the air. But I said to them, I was like, "I’m gonna get actual FOMO if I’m not in this film, so can I just come on set and be like a boom operator? I will be an assistant director, I just want to be involved.

The Sequel Was Announced In Late 2024

Talk to Me 2 was confirmed shortly after the theatrical release of Talk to Me. Danny and Michael Philippou said they have a giant "mythology Bible" about the hand and have enough for a trilogy. While there's no release date for Talk to Me 2 yet, it is encouraging to know that A24 — a studio not known for its horror franchises — has enough faith in the project that they've already confirmed it.

Can Any Original Stars Return?

Don't expect many characters from Talk to Me to return for the Talk to Me 2 cast, and the sequel will probably see a brand-new ensemble. There is little in the way of Talk to Me 2 story news. However, directors Danny and Michael Philippou said they have enough material for a possible trilogy of movies. The first movie questioned whether Mia could trust the dead when they told her their "truths" but then the ending had a twist where Mia was now part of the dead. This could open the door for more exploration into the mythos behind the actual embalmed, inscribed hand.

The Talk to Me 2 story will likely focus on the kids who use the hand next, but it would need to go much deeper.
